Makeup Look: Indulge

Hello lovelies!

Last day of September... Wow, Fall just got here and I feel like we are already half way through!!

I wanted to create a look for you guys using some of my favourite items from MAC's Indulge Limited edition Collection (to see what I got from this collection and swatches, click here), which would double as a great Fall look. What better way to welcome Fall than with this collection?

I loved the super luxe colours and feeling of this collection and I gathered inspiration from their marketing images. I love the mix of jewel tones with the gold and the head wraps - gave everything an expensive gypsy feel.

Now, I must point out that I am NOT trying to re-create one of he MAC 'Indulge' looks - I am simply making a look inspired by the collection and images. This is my interpretation and technique, might not necessarily be right, but it's how I create my art. Here's the breakdown by feature.

For my face:
As always, I start off with a clean, moisturized face. Makeup always looks best on a clean canvas. I primed my face with my Benefit Cosmetics 'Porefessional' face primer and primed my eyes with my Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Once my face was primed and prepped, I applied my Dior 'Airflash' Spray Foundation and blended that out with a damp Beauty Blender. When I had the coverage I wanted, I set my foundation with my MAC 'Flatter me' Pearlmatte Face Powder (Archie's Girls LE Collection). I contoured my face with my MAC 'Nude on Board' Bronzer (Temperature Rising LE Collection) and got ready for brows.

For my brows:
I always use a matte brown eyeshadow that I have had forever, a really good dupe for it is MAC 'Espresso' eyeshadow. I lined and filled my brows with the matte eyeshadow and a small hard-angled brush with a spool on the other end. I use the spool once I'm done filling to blend and make the brows look more natural. Once I have my shape that I want, I corrected any mishaps with my Benefit 'Boi-Ing' concealer in medium with a small concealer brush. I then highlighted my brows using MAC 'Orb' eyeshadow and an angled shader brush.

For my eyes:
I started with applying 'Naked' by Urban Decay on my crease and above my crease with a tapered blending brush. For the colour, I started with my inner and outer V, which I used a pencil brush to apply Urban Decay's 'Creep'. I also applied this on the outer corner under my lash line. Again, using a pencil brush, I applied MAC 'Palace Pedigree' (Indulge LE Collection) in the crease and outer lid, and blended that with a fluffy blending brush (224), and also under the lashline in the center. As my transition blending colour, I used MAC 'Haux' eyeshadow and blended that above the crease with my blending brush. I also applied some of this colour under the black and purple, under the bottom lash line. For the colour on my lid, I used MAC 'Vex' because I really like the pink pearl it has and I think it goes well with the purple shade.  For the inner corner, I went back to my Urban Decay Naked 1 palette and applied 'Half Baked' eyeshadow with a shader brush. As finishing touches - concealer pencil in the waterline, Clinique High Impact Mascara (2 coats) and Ardell's 'Demi Whispies' lashes.

For my cheeks:
I like to apply my concealer after I'm done my eye makeup, to clean up any messes before highlighting. I applied my Benefit 'Boi-Ing' concealer in medium, to my undereye circles, blemishes and anywhere else it was needed. Blush is next. I used my MAC 'Prim & Proper' Blush (Liberty of London LE Collection) with my Duo Fibre blush brush, and topped that off with my MAC 'Adored' Mineralize Skinfinsh highlighter.

For my lips:
I kept it nice and simple, just some primer - I used MAC Prep+Prime Lip, and then my MAC 'Feed the Senses' Lustre lipstick (Indulge LE Collection). That's it! I love this nude shade for fall, it's becoming an absolute favourite!

And there you have it! My Indulge look! Are we loving? I'm LOVING! These pictures don't do the makeup justice!

Maven Manicure: My Julep September Box

Anyone else finding that this month has flown by?

September was a great month for Julep Mavens, there were plenty of great fall shades to choose from and the beauty products looked great. Making it very hard for an indecisive girl to choose which box I wanted, almost opting to not look and have this month be a complete surprise. That seemed a little extreme, so I bit my lip and chose the "Classic with a Twist" box and didn't look back!

Honestly, I don't think I could have made a better choice now that I have my items, all my doubts are now rest assured, it was tough to choose with so many lovely colours. I got two great fall limited edition nail colours with a full sized beauty product - the 'Bare Face Cleansing Oil'. Here are the products in more detail:

Padma Nail Colour - on the website, this colour is described as a "Royal Plum Cream", however there is a subtle purple shimmer so I don't know if I would count it completely as a cream. It goes on as a deep eggplant purple, and is mostly opaque with one coat - two coats might be needed for more even colour. It's very dark and vampy, perfect for fall! It's an almost black-purple, when you quickly glance it could be mistaken for black.

Florence Nail Colour - on the website, this colour is described as a "Classic Camel Cream", and is true to its description - this is the perfect neutral nude. It goes on a bit streaky with he first coat, two coats are definitely necessary to get an even colour across the nail bed. I love this nude, it's not too warm, it's not too cool or grey - just right! Fun to pair with fall colours!

Bare Face Cleansing Oil (with Power Cell Complex) - this cleanser is described on the website as a "lightweight, antioxidant-rich cleanser that gently and thoroughly dissolves makeup, dirt and excess oil without over-drying skin, then rinses clean with no oily residue. Recommended for all skin types." I'm excited to see how this will measure up to MAC's 'Cleanse Off Oil', and I will be doing a future review post on this product to see how, and if, it holds its own. The only negative thing that I have to point out... From my first initial impression, right off the bat - the colour of the product is a little off. It's urine yellow and a little unpleasant to look at. But that's just me.

I do have to point out that the Nail Colours came in some new and different packaging than it usually does, a little more environmentally friendly which is much appreciated. And it looks super fresh and cute!

I decided to do a regular manicure this time with a transitional nail (of course!) with the two colours I've received. Here's how I gave myself a cute and sexy fall manicure with my new Nail Colours from my Maven box!

First, as always, I make sure to prep my nails by scrubbing and washing my hands and nails. Then I apply some Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) around my nail beds to ensure I stay in the lines and makes clean up easy later.

I apply the first coat...

And the second...

Making sure to let each coat completely dry before applying the next, will help even out the colour and prevent streaking. Once both coats were complexly dry, I apply the final coat of top coat to seal it all in and give it a nice shine. I had recently broken my OPI Top Coat and replaced it win this cute little bottle from my local beauty supply. It's a deal at $.95!

Once the top coat was applied, I made sure to give myself sufficient time to let it all dry completely before doing or starting any tasks. I like to "smudge-proof" my manicures this way!

And voila!

I love this manicure colour combination, and everything I got in my box this month - a perfect introduction to Fall! I love fall fashion, holidays, colours, and this is the perfect way to incorporate those fall colours and trends into ones everyday fall look!

Mavens! What box did you choose in September and did you love the items you got this month? Are you loving (or hating) the Cleansing Oil? Did you also chose the 'Classic with a Twist' box? What are you loving the most? Tell me, tell me, tell me, in the comments box below! I will be doing a review on the Cleansing Oil once I give it a go and some time to do its magic - so stay tuned for that if you're interested!

Rave or Rant? - Jesse's Girl Liquid Eyeliner Pen

Happy Weekend loves!

I absolutely had to do a review on this eyeliner pen because I am a big fan and advocate of this type of eyeliner. I was (too) excited when I got my September Ipsy Glam Bag, (to see the full product list of what I got, click here) I was hoping at I would get this product in my Glam Bag when I saw that it was a possibility and my wish came true. Now I get to play with this baby and review it for all you dolls out there, hope you find this helpful!

As per 'Jesse's Girl Cosmetics' website; the "unique Japanese calligraphy-style brush allows for precise, super-fine application that let's you create lines as small as one millimetre thickness! Combined with a formula that dries super-quick (for a waterproof, smudge-proof application), our liquid eyeliner glides on smoothly without pulling or tugging."

Jesse's Girl Liquid Eyeliner Pen is sold online on their website and other retailers and affiliates (I will list the websites at the bottom of this post), for a steal of a price - $6.99 for 5ml/.017oz of product and it's only available in black. Too bad, I would definitely be interested in different colours for this product! Hoping they come out with more colours in the near future. This is also a waterproof eyeliner, which is just amazing!

I have never had or tried a product from Jesse's Girl Cosmetics before, but I have heard of the brand before and their amazing 'Glow Stix' lip glosses that glow in the dark, well, like glow sticks. I've seen them on some Makeup Artists' social media and everyone couldn't say more good things about them, so I was really excited to try out this eyeliner by this brand!

First initial impression was great, I love the packaging - sexy and sleek, and there's a little bit of weight when you hold the product. I think this is because of her pretty metal packaging and I really appreciate it, I find I have more control because of the weight of the product. The application tip is really impressive, long and pointed and the brush is clean and sharp. Perfect for making precise, sharp lines and angles. I did a quick test on my hand when I initially got it and it glided on my hand nice and smooth and I had to remove it with makeup remover as soap and water didn't rinse it off.

When I finally got my hands on some time to play and really see what this eyeliner can really do, I tried a few different designs to really see the variation on thickness (or thinness) and to see if there are any limitations on what eyeliner designs can be achieved by using his eyeliner. Here's a photo of my eye without make up:

And here are the eyeliner art looks and examples I did with my Jesse's Girl Liquid Eyeliner Pen:

An everyday look:

A classic Cat-eye:

Arabic Style:

Freestyle:

Using this eyeliner is truly a pleasure, glides on smoothly and opaque with one swipe along the lashline and is a true black colour. The applicator brush tip is super easy to use, the longer brush gives some more control but also doesn't limit you to what you can do with this eyeliner. Setting time is super quick, only a few seconds so smudging is almost impossible and the fact that it's waterproof makes it a great go to option for everyday and everywhere wear.

What I do really love about this product is that it's super quick and easy to use. If you're running late or don't have much time in general for makeup, this product should be part of your 5 minute routine. It's perfect to keep in your purse to turn 'office makeup' into 'happy hour makeup' and it's the best way to add drama and polish off any eye look.

Product Grade: A+

Although this is my personal opinion of this product, I really think its a great product and will surely
be the star of any makeup look or collection. I love pen-type eyeliners and have tried many different types from different brands(MAC, Sephora, Stila, Kat Von D, Hello Kitty) and I didn't think it could get better than MAC's Penultimate Eyeliner pen. Until now. I. Love. This. Eyeliner. I know I will be reaching for this eyeliner everyday for all my makeup looks and to do makeup art with. It's a favourite in my collection and I will be repurchasing this eyeliner in the future, for as long as I possibly can!

Have you tried this eyeliner or received it in your Ipsy bag as well? What did you think? I would love to know what you think of pen-type liquid liners and what your favourite liner is? Leave me your comments and opinions in the comments box below or email me at makeupmasochist@gmail.com. Doggie Days: Doggie Days of Summer

Happy Humpday!

Something that always gets me through the day, week, month - are my lovable and loyal companions. These girls stick with me through thick and thin and I am so grateful to have them to cheer me up and remind me that life is beautiful!

We like to take full advantage of summer and the good weather, especially when its not too hot out. Evenings are our favourite time to take the girls out for walks and to the parks because when its too hot out, they wont have a good time. We are lucky enough to have a wide range of awesome places that we can take them to in the city, but our most favourite places are around the corner from home.

Here are some photos of the girls doing their Puggie thang this summer in the city!

These angels that God lets us borrow are only with us for a small percentage of our entire lives, but leave the biggest mark on our hearts that lasts for eternity. I love my little fur-babies as much as my heart can hold, and they bring such joy to my life. I love spending time doing things I know they love and making special moments together!
